Guangzhou Medical University (GMU), established in 1958, is a prominent institution specializing in medical education. It offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs and was included in the Double First-Class Initiative in 2022.
GMU operates two campuses: the Yuexiu campus in central Guangzhou and the Panyu campus, a new 247-acre site near the Pearl River. The university features 25 teaching faculties, 27 research institutes, and 14 affiliated hospitals. It hosts several national and provincial key labs and research centers, including one national medical center and one state key lab.
Ranked 72nd in mainland China according to the ESI comprehensive ranking, GMU excels in Clinical Medicine, which is in the top 1‰ globally. It has 24 national key clinical specialties and 94 provincial key clinical specialties. The faculty includes esteemed experts such as Medal of the Republic recipients and Chinese Academy of Sciences members.
GMU focuses on producing highly skilled health professionals and offers 22 undergraduate programs, with 17 recognized as national first-class. It boasts several national and provincial-level teaching and research facilities and maintains a high employment rate for graduates.
The university engages in extensive international collaborations and has been offering clinical medicine programs to international students since 2010. With around 300 international students from 31 countries, GMU is committed to advancing education, research, and healthcare globally. It continues to play a vital role in addressing major public health issues and aims to become a leading independent medical school in China and beyond.

Application Materials
- Scanned copy of valid passport’s information page.
- Notarized copy of highest academic degree certificate or graduation diploma and transcripts (Graduating students should provide pre-graduation certificate issued by the authorities of the school and provide the copy of graduation diploma when registration).
- The transcript of the university and language certificate (HSK).
- Two recommendation letters: The referee should be professor or associate professor.
- Study plan in China. Above 1000 words for master candidates, above 1500 words for PhD candidates. The content should include (but not limited to) study and work experience, academic research achievement, planned research proposal, and career plan after graduation, etc in Chinese or in English.
- List and abstracts of published papers or other materials demonstrating research abilities.
- ID photo (2-inch blue background photo without hats).
- English or Chinese self-introduction video (3-5 minutes, no more than 50M).
- Scanned copy of Foreigner’s Physical Examination Form.
- If the applicant is working, please Notarized Carrier Certificate made by the institution where you are working. Other documents may certify your professional and personal background should be helpful.
- Financial Guarantee Letter and scanned copies of its supporting documents completed in Chinese or English.
Entry Requirements
. Applicants for Master program must have bachelor’s degree with the same major subject and be under the age of 35; Applicants for PhD program must have master’s degree with the same major subject, and be under the age of 40.
- Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport.
- Applicants should be physically and mentally healthy and meet the medical examination standards for applying for a study visa or residence permit in China.
- Chinese requirement: HSK 4 or above.
