Carrying out the administrative system built by Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and People’s Government of Hunan Province, the University of South China (USC) merged the original Central South Institute of Technology (which was attached to China National Nuclear Corporation), state-funded Hengyang Medical College. In October 2002, USC incorporated the Sixth Research Institute of National Nuclear Industry as its subordinating part. In July 2004, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) set up a training base for Navy Reserve Officers in USC.    With beauty surrounding it, the university is conveniently situated in downtown Hengyang city – a city with a long history. The university library boasts over 3 million volumes, and due to its network resources and a good academic atmosphere, the library is an ideal place for study and research.
