Students studying in China need to apply for either an X1 or X2 visa, depending on the length of their study period:
X1 Visa
For students studying in China for more than 180 days, such as for a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. program. This visa is usually valid for up to five years and allows multiple entries. Students must apply for a residence permit within 30 days of entering China.
X2 Visa
For students studying in China for less than 180 days. The visa specifies how many days the student is allowed to stay in China.
How to apply for Student Visa
Students should apply for a visa at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate that is closest to them. The Admission Notice, the Visa Application Form (JW202/JW201/DQ), and a regular passport are required. Depending on nationality, a student visa can cost different amounts.
